A Quick Feed from Kolkata: Nearly 60 years history of Filmfare since the Filmfare Awards were hosted for the first time, the popular honor makes its east India debut this March, This has been declared by the organizers on last Saturday.
The ostentatious award ceremony will be held at the Science City auditorium in Kolkata.
For the first time ‘Vivel Filmfare Awards 2013’ said to be organized on March 29 here will offer a national platform to identify Bengali, Assamese as well as Oriya films.
Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee said to the media “I am happy that such a national honor is coming to east India. Films from the region will be in the spotlight” when he was unveiling the trophy.
Tarun Rai CEO of Worldwide Media publishers of Filmfare Magazine has said, “There has been resurgence in Bengali cinema in the last seven to eight years and the time is right for the initiative”.
The “iconic Black Lady” will be given to the winners in 21 diverse categories for Bengali films and four each for the Oriya and Assamese film industries.
“We didn’t have such platforms in the region when we started. I am glad that now the emerging artists from these states will get national exposure through this” said the 51-year-old actor, who preferred to acknowledge Bengali films as part of Indian cinema.
