Jatin Lalit : The ‘Jodi’ that ruled our heart in 1990’s…

“Ye India hai bhai,Ihapar aapko famous hone ke liye marna parta hain ya bahar se recognition lana parta hain..”

This is a true story here but there are always some exceptions. RD Burman got so famous that he was called Living Legend. No, I am not going to write about him, I‘ll not dare to do so. I am going to tell the story of a Jodi that filled our heart with joy in 1990’s.It was the time when we were not toddlers that we could not understand music or not so matured that that we could judge the technical quality of music. It was the time when we listened to the songs that touched us. We didn’t think whether it is path breaking. It was the time when Jatin –Lalit ruled the Bollywood musical world.

Jatin Pandit and Lalit Pandit were born into the Mewati Gharana of Rajasthan and are the nephews of Pandit Jasraj ji .They started their musical career as Music Director in 1991 .The debut film was ‘Yaara Dildara’ which was not a hit anyway, but the song “Bin Tere Sanam Mar Mitenge Hum” still claims slots in FM channels. Though the music reminds of the legend, R D Burman, sometimes confuses us. It didn’t take much time to build their own style of music. Next year “Pehla Nasha” took the heart of all music lovers. For that song, they were been nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Music director. This was one of their best compositions, truly speaking, to me this is the best composition of the decade. In that year two huge success story was wrtten ,” Khiladi” and “Raju Ban Gaya Gentelman” and three voices were been assigned to three Superstars of future , Utit Narayan for Amir Khan, Kumar Shanu for Shah Rukh and Abhijeet for Akshyay Kumar.

The success story continued in movies like ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’, ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ , ‘Khamoshi’ , ‘Yes Boss’, ‘Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hain’, ‘Ghulam’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hain’, ‘Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hain’ , ‘Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha’, ‘Pyaar Kiya to Darna Kya’ and lot more…

They were Nominated for Filmfare Award in consecutive eight years , from 1995 to 2003 and won that in 1998 for ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hain’.

It was a journey for almost 16 years after they separated giving personal reasons.  The last album they worked together was ‘Fanna’ in 2006.It is almost 8 years, we pray that they come together once again. Bollywood never stood still for anyone but after their separation there is a drought of romantic music in Bollywood. Every-time we want to change our ringtone, we wish that some other romantic music refreshes our mind.

Some of their compositions that still touch us is taken under one playlist …….
